ABOUT Blepharoplasty Surgery in Turkey
Lift of eyelid or blepharoplasty is a medical procedure that consists of removal of skin and adding or removing fat from the eyelids. The explanation of the "eyelid lift" procedure does not mean that the eyelid is really being lifted during surgery.
The upper blepharoplasty procedure uses incisions to allow the removal of skin fat. A thin stitch is being used to make the skin together and allow a creation of an eyelid crease.
Lower eyelid surgery can involve skin incisions exactly under the lash line or an incision on the inside of the eyelid, that is called a trans-conjunctival approach. The trans-conjunctival approach allows access to the eyelid without any visible incisions, making this technique perfect for patients who need fat removal or adding. This technique can be combined with laser resurfacing of the eyelid skin to reduce wrinkles and lines.
Reasons to make an eyelid surgery
Heavy looking eyelid due to upper eyelid fat skin, changes in appearance due to age, puffiness, and block of the vision at the upper eyelid. Upper blepharoplasty operates for the removal of excess skin and improves vision and appearance.
Double eyelid surgery, which is as well called Asian eyelid surgery, is performed to create or enhance an upper eyelid crease. Usually, this type of operation is preferred among Asian people, who want to ‘westernize’ eyelid’s appearance.
Lower blepharoplasty is performed for removing excess skin and improvement of the contour of the eyelid by adding or removing fat. Sometimes tightening the eyelid is needed to correct sagging, while laser skin resurfacing is used to delete wrinkles and improve skin texture.
Preparation for eyelid surgery
Before eyelid surgery is performed, the surgeon makes a detailed examination and discusses with the patient benefits and potential risks of blepharoplasty. The patient is advised to follow the doctor’s prescriptions thoroughly and review the instructions for post-operative time. The doctor will advise the best matching medications for pain relief and eye care gels and drops after the operation.
Recovery time after eyelid surgery
Usually, it takes a short time for recovery after the operation. After surgery, you may have swelling and bruising, which is disappearing day by day. Cool compresses for the first 2 days after the surgery will effectively reduce bruises around the eyes. For the best healing, the patient is advised to walk and make light activities.
Over the incision sites, thin bandages are applied for a couple of days, and the stitches can remain in the skin for around 7 days. Sometimes to avoid removal of stitches manually, self-absorbing stitches are being used.
Generally, it takes 10 days to return to casual life after the blepharoplasty. Within 14 days after the blepharoplasty, the majority of swelling and bruising is resolved.
